Nice going Craig.
I've updated a couple of maps reflecting most of the recent finds.
Nice going Craig.
I've updated a couple of maps reflecting most of the recent finds.
I was going to put this in Eagle1's 5ft Falcon build thread but did not want to detract from his epic adventure.
Anyway, I was looking at some new images of the cockpit of the 5ft Falcon when I realised something interesting that I had never noticed before. I just thought I would post this in case others like me, weren't aware of it.
The cockpit has a cap at the front of it and where I had previously known of the "scalloping" of the edges I didn't notice the hexagonal shape around the centre window. It's only just barely discernable in the first image so I highlighted in the second image below.
However, it can be seen more clearly in this image.

Yup, same thing as the scalloping on the rear edges. Build up from styrene sheet maybe? On the window sections it would allow clear sheet or slide glass panels, if they were still planning on using glass that late? Pure speculation, have never read anything about it.
Screw on plumbing cap. windows cut out and center cut out.

Couldnt find a picture of what i mean, But octagon shape is the nut part. The closest I could find a picture is below. But the ones I am thinking of are solid and screw into inspection sections of plumbing bends. The reason I feel this is the case is that I believe they used a stink pipe cover for the canopy, and then the plumbing cap for the the nose.
Ozzy
A thick piece of styrene, with the windows cut out, then the front sections filed down on an angle.
I seen a photo, just can't recall where.....
Don't forget that the cockpit, and the radar dish, were the Blockade Runner's before being swapped to the Falcon. I think there's a photo that shows it being made out of the same clear acrylic as the rest of that ship? I'll look for that.
I have a long move ahead of me soon, so all my kits are going into storage for the time being. I'll leave with this to add to the list:
Never seen those photo's mentioned, so if anyone has them I would love to se them. Even if it blows my idea out of the water. LOL.
Ozzy
Eh, I could be wrong because the only one I can find like that is a pic of the prototype.
Craig
Haha, it should only be about a month, Stu. So when I get back into things, I should expect you'll be putting the finishing touches on an awesome model!
Craig
Whew!, only a month, that's a relief mate.
Yeah, I should be placing the masking tape on the hull for the final colors by the time you get back
I wish too!
Stu
Ooooo, so close on that part Craig, I'm still hunting for it, it's maddening alright
California Hauler eh, another one for the list then.
Hey can anyone confirm for sure, is the Nitto 1/76th M3A1 Halftrack the same as the Fujimi version?. Maybe just re-boxed by Fujimi after Nitto went out of business?. I'm after the parts for the top turret if you hadn't guessed
Stu
Nice find Craig, once again!. Does this mean that all four short sections ( 2 on each mandible side) are the Californian Hauler?
Also, from what I can see on Ebay the basic rig is a Peterbilt 359. Do you think it has to be the Californian version or would any 1/25 359 be ok?
Hope the move goes ok
Cheers
Nick
Starboard side is White Road Boss, Nick.
There are probably re-boxings but I can't say for sure which one. I got the one that was on the ILM shelves.

Found this part from the Tamiya 1/35th Panther Ausf A, which sits right behind the Bandai 1/24th M60A1 & under the Bandai 1/48th 8-Ton. Same for both sides.
Also, the part highlighted in red is from the Bandai 1/48th Hetzer, same both sides.
Does anyone know what kit the part highlighted in green comes from, it's bugging the heck out of me
Stu
Here's a couple of larger images of the part you're looking for, Stu. To my untrained eye it looks like one half of an inline aircraft engine with part of the mount, the other half being on the opposite side.
What scale then would that make it? 1/72 or smaller?

I thought I'd share how I started to set up the radar dish as it's kind of a tricky area. This is how I interpret it, so I'm open to thoughts if someone sees it differently, haha! Here I have two parts from the 1/15 StuG and a cone from the Saturn V. Notice you can see a lip from the edge of the StuG piece, which wouldn't be present if it was trimmed any other way, I think. Glued together and sanded flush to the rocket cone.
It's a lot of work for an area that you don't even notice. Going further down to the base, you'll need a bunch of parts from the Hummel, StuG, Harrier and Handley Page.

I was looking at a larger image of the radar dish, similar to yours Tsophika, and to me it appears that the lip looks more like an undercut. Thoughts?

Erm... yeah, that's what I was trying to say. Right on.
IMO that shows that the StuG sits on the base of the cone.
Hey, did that part ever reach you yet?
Yes it did. Thanks so much for that. It looks almost exactly like the original part and that's good enough for me.
Several hours and 47 pages later, I got to this point. I really don't have anything to contribute to this thread other than, WOW!!! Absolutely fantastic stuff. I myself will probably never build a studio scale Falcon, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate the work done by those who do.
I will be keeping any eye on this one.
I've not seen this photo so clear before. From the SW Facebook page:

Craig- nice work on the radar mate, another tricky assembly to get looking right!.
That mystery part looks to me like an ejection seat cushion, possibly 1/48th?. Maybe just a normal aircraft seat cushion too. Only aircraft in 1/48th I can think of as donors so far are the Bandai civil aircraft which I don't have to confirm.
Found this part recently, it's from the Aurora 1/48th Sherman M4A3E8, been hunting this one for ages. Turret ring on top is from the Tamiya 8-Rad.
