For the King Tiger? Please, and thank you! I think the Panther scans are up at the Studio Scale Modelers site already.

Hey Omes72 ( mate, what's your name? feels way too impersonal )

Glad you like the start we've made, would certainly appreciate any help you can offer re scans and casts. I see there is some deliberation over the KT turret. I've got a Bandai 1/24 KT and its definitley not that.

The idea of an older Tamiya version sounds plausible, but not sure where that leaves us as far as getting hold of one. Is there any correct box art we can use as reference when scouring Ebay!?

From next week I'll have normal access to my home PC so will aim to do some more work on these maps, and start on new ones.

Nick, do you happen to have any pics of that Bandai 1:24 KT?

Julien, I have the Nichimo KT - I picked it up when I picked up the JagdTiger for the Y Wing because I wasn't sure which one was the right one. All the parts are off the trees and in containers though, so I don't think I can be of much help here.

Heh, me again. There is a Nichimo KT on Ebay at the moment. But from what I can see of the turret its not a match for the MR part we need.

NICHIMO RARE VINTAGE 1:35 REMOTE CONTROL KING TIGER on eBay (end time 17-Jan-11 13:50:14 GMT)

I'd still be interested to know more about Julien's old style Tamiya KT theory..hmmm

OK, the 1/35 Tamiya Mokei seems to be the right kit.

    Kit n°20 (NO.MT120), released in 1967.

    Hope that helps Nick !

    Hi Folks,

Please see the first of the big 68" Falcon partmaps I've been tinkering up. I've got these all saved as PSD files so I can go in and add/amend to them as required. Plan is that once we get as much as we can ID'd the finalised and 'signed off' maps can maybe go on the Studioscale site for general access and to save people having to keep re-inventing the wheel as far as kit part ID'ing goes. I'm also drawing up a spreadsheet to log what kits are used as a handy reference. Seems like there are also a few kind souls who would be up for casting the odd part from the very rare & expensive kits, which would be a massive help. I'll do the same once I get my stuff out of storage.

There's a hell of alot more to do but hopefully these maps are a start. If any of the kit bashing grandmasters out there like Julien, Lee, Jamie et al can throw us a few bones it would be much appreciated. If you see I have mis-identified anything, likewise let me know.
As I've said elswhere if/when I get to the point of actually making the big MF I'd be prepared to offer some casts of key areas as a starter kit, however I don't want get ahead of myself just yet!

Seems like there a few folks out there trying to pull this big project off, if we can work together maybe we can actually get it done while we are still young enough to enjoy it!

PS: Very sad to hear of the untimely passing of Grant McCune. What a tremendous artist, and what a huge legacy he helped leave to us.

[QUOTE=MonsieurTox;1511479]Hey Stu, there was an older KT made by Tamiya (Mokei). Is that a KT w/ Henschel or Porsche turret you have ?[/QUOTE

Julien, my kit has a 'Henschel' turret. This older Tamiya (Mokei) could just be the one, but would need a better pic of the turret. Thanks for posting those pics though!.

    Hi there,

Welcome aboard. I think you may have got the wrong end of the stick on this one I'm afraid. The images I posted are of the original filming model, not anything I have made myself ( I wish). That's the drive behind this thread, to identify what kit parts were used by the ILM modelmakers in order to help define accurate dimensions etc.

The original model hull was made from acrylic domes mounted onto a wooden core. Quite an unusual approach from the typical vertical bulkhead profiles usually done. If you lurk around here for a while I'm sure you will glean some useful information to help you and your father out.

    Cheers
    Nick

Thanks for the info on this old KT kit Julien. I can see from the images that the turret has that small box detail as part of it, which I had assumed was a separate detail and had marked in yellow. So two for one. I also think it could provide the orange section of hull I've noted in the partmap as being a possible Panther tank.

If anybody has this and would be game to cast that would be cool? - I'll start hitting Ebay in the meantime!

I've got a lead on that old Tamiya KT we need. I'm going to try and get it, but with the provisio that I'll do casts as required, so we don't all need to start bidding each other out of existence!

I'm sorry Nick for the Tiger II... I hope you'll win one soon !

    I have a good news though !

While I was packing up all my kits for my upcoming move and cleaning the room, I found a bag of loosen parts behind the bench !

And look what Ive found inside it :

I can now confirm it's from the Revell Saratoga, the very vintage issue, not the retooled one.
