Is this Koolshade?.

Hey chaps, can you tell me if this is indeed Koolshade or a similar product I'm not aware of?.
Story is, my Dad apparently has had a whole bag of this hidden for quite a number of years now & brought it out for me to see.
It is metal, green in colour & very light. I have added a ruler in the pics so you can see the size.
Trouble is, Dad cut the screen into strips so lacks the raised strip which is present on real deal Koolshade.
Still, It could be used for say the Falcon engine vents & around the cockpit tube assembly.

Any help would be great people.
Cheers
Stu

Re: Is this Koolshade?.

Hi Stu,

This is a similar but also quite different.
Please refer to the link
http://www.therpf.com/f10/building-sandcrawler-74855/
I used the vintage Koolshade on SC.
Additionally, the current material and the vintage are slightly different.
If you want to know more details, please contact ot Matt (aka dragnink).

thanks Eric.

Re: Is this Koolshade?.

Thanks for the mention Eric, I have been away from here for too long.

I love the pattern though Stu, very "sci-fi" looking. How much do you have on-hand? Would you be willing to sell any? It has a tighter pattern than any floor vent I've seen.

for comparison, the ILM (except the AT-AT) koolshade:

Hey Matt, I thought the koolshade used on the AT-AT was the same ? What's different ?

Re: Is this Koolshade?.

The green stuff you see was not the original material used on the models. The green is a stample aluminum louver made by Kaiser Aluminum and then Phifer until 1991.

The original material is KoolShade and is a woven bronze material usually painted black. I have a lot of this material. Contact me if you have any further questions. solrman at earthlink dot net (sorry guys, not tryiing to break rules but am not sure of the contact protocal, I just want to help)

By the way, the difference between today's and the original is under some controversy. Some say the original material had 23 louvers per inch but that material had production stopped around 1992-1993. The material now is a nominal 17 louvers per inch and has been in production since 1943. I have supplied a lot of 17 louver per inch material for models.
