Has anyone ever run across pictures of the SS K-7 model used in TOS or is this one of the phantom models that vanished like the Doomsday Machine?

It's a phantom!!! I heard it was made from a McDonald Douglas space station concept model that was reworked. I think it was made out of some sort of foam. It was really soft. There are photos of the GJ model created for the DS9 episode TAT.
Here is the source model:

Interesting info and pictures, thanks feek.
In all my years of being a Trek fan I cannot recall ever seeing pics of the actual TOS model but the GJ is the next best thing.
Makes me wish I could go back in time with a camera and get some good reference pics (and maybe grab a phaser).![]()
One of the revelations for me is that the hulls were shells overlapping, rather then the ribs we had on our old AMT models.
I never realized the hull was designed that way either. Cool concept.
Thanks for the link robn1.![]()
The original Douglas Aircraft Company space station was intended to be launched folded up, and unfurled in orbit. This is why the shells overlap.

More good info. Thanks Nyrath and welcome to the RPF.
And in Another Science Fiction: Advertising the Space Race 1957-1962 by Megan Prelinger there was a reproduction of an original ad from Douglas Missile and Space Systems:
Such a great concept for a space station. Too bad it was never used except in Trek.
