that will work....I thought the cathode tube would be kinda like the original
Could be better with the CC tube as it goes buddy, the EL wire, has a decent glow, but is maybe a tad weak for the size of this engine bay?
Rich would know more, as he's a bit of a lighting guru too lol.

If you ran a lot of wire it would be OK. For example if you ran it up and down through every "groove" of the engine detail that Vos "created" then it would be pretty bright. But yeah a single strand through there would not be nearly enough. It s got the same engine glow issue as the Falcon. I've seen great results with EL, CFLs and LEDs on Falcon builds. Properly wired LEDs last a LONG time... hint hint...

Here's the first cast piece. This is the engine detail part, cast in clear resin. I'm very happy with how this turned out. There will be two of these in each kit.
Thanks

Looks great.
Rich, I'm still waiting for a reply to my PM. Before committing to this 100%, I'd really like to hear what this "great price" is that you've worked out for international shipping.
Thanks.
Chris
Hi Rich! Awesome as usual! WHAT ARE YOU USUNG FOR YOUR CLEAR RESIN. I have always had bad luck with clears.
Looks great Richard! Something tells me this kit is going to be incredible!![]()
That looks great.
How did you make the master???????
Damn I gotta find the cash for this ... Hey Rich would you consider some kind of trade? I have no idea if I even have anything cool enough that you'd want but hey... who knows.
Looking outstanding. Very interested dependent on shipping and PM sent.
This is looking phenomenal! I can't wait to get my hands on one!

Looks lovely and clean Richard. I'm so glad you took this on and can't wait to see what else you come up with.
Stormy, the master was designed and drawn up in Illustrator, lasercut from the file in acrylic (55 pieces per half), and put together (with some kit parts at the end)

'Been following this project for quite some time, on the fence about buying like many others. That clear resin engine casting is what finally sold me. Count me in for one!!!![]()
Here's the first casting of the upper structure, this is resin. I had to make a few modifications to Neil's part so it could be more hollow.
I've decided to make the wings out of hollow fiberglass, I think resin will be too heavy in the long run, and since the wings will be hollow lighting will be easier, plus with fiberglass they should be light enough to allow for motorization if someone is so inclined.
Thanks

Agreed that looks awesome. I am definitely in on buying this one. Simply beautiful.

Thats is just blooming top notch casting Rich, very nice indeed, and refreshing to see such quality in and SS kit for a change!

Blimey Richard thats some terrific work. Needless to say based on great patterns by Neil. How did you tackle that deep tail overhang area. It looks very thin to get resin in there?
Nick
Kinda ran through my mind too Nick, that is some tricky area indeed, cant say ive seen casting like that where such a thin cavity is created with resin
Was talking with Rich last night about this one, and he has some killer plans for it, i think the first build up is going to blow minds lol, and i have to say, although its never been my cup of tea, this thread has really made me look at the prop in a whole new light, id be lying if i said i didnt now want one...maybe im fickle

Still no PM here regarding the "special" for oversea shipping...
I am beginning to dislike that the project went to the US for casting. Sorry i am a patient guy normaly but being ignored twice now makes me kind of sick. 875$ is not chicken feed.
Philip
Sorry, I thought I got everyone. PM sent.
To answer the questions about the casting, you have to make a two piece mold, and make lots of vent holes, and pour the resin from the backside of the mold instead of the top. It won't work any other way with a thin edge like that.
Of course it makes a little more work to remove all the sprues that are left.
And you have to use very slow setting resin, I used Smooth Cast 310 with a 2 hour demold time.
