Studio scale prop building isnt for everyone.
Either BUILD IT or BUY IT.
One is an investment of time...the other money.
For everyone else....
MPC.
Tragically sad,...yet equally true.
Only thing to complain for me is that the project left europe because that means very high shipping as well as custom fees for us europeans.
The 875 to 1000 seem absolutly reasonalbe for me. Problem would be the roundabout 150$ shipping + 300 customs and tax.
So in the end a european (in this case german) buyer ends up with 1450$ (estimated sales price 1000$ for the kit) getting this from the US instead of 1050$ getting it from the UK. As you see this is nearly half of the salesprice for the complete kit (just for um... eh... nothing..).
Maybe REL can ship the european bunch as a whole to VOS and he does the sales for europe. I guess shipping all together is much more effective an costs less.
I could do that, but you would have to be prepared for the process to run a little slower that way.
I also think you might be suprised at the difference in postal costs between the US and 'Rip-off' Britain. I've had large boxes arrive from the US for half the price that I would have to pay to send it back
Would you stand more chance of avoiding the import duties if the parcel came from the UK instead of the US? That would certainly help.
Neil
I could probably arrange for quite a few of em to come back for next to nothing but it would be in a container over sea, I often freight stuff back from the USA this way. It only cost me $75 to ship the MR falcon from LA to Birmingham? If we could put 4 or 5 in one big box I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem?
Great idea Guy!
@Vos: Time is no matter for me personally (Waiting around 30 years for a kit like this make this little longer wait no problem).
I guess all european buyers would prefer a big shipment in a container than paying these super high fees.
Let's see what Richard thinks.....this is his project now, although I'm up for doing anything I can to make things go smoothly.
Guy, isn't there a chance that duty/fees might be imposed twice? Once from the US to the UK, then once from the UK to the rest of Europe? If I get hit with the taxes (and I get hit often on high value packages from the US), then I am going to have to collect them from each person waiting for a kit before I ship them on. It might work but it sounds pretty messy.
From US to Europe = Taxes
From UK to anywhere else in Europe = Taxfree
Great Idea!
I am also interested in one (maby two) kit(s).
So I would happy too, if we could save on shipping and fees!
I'm sure the price for this ship would be a lot more if MR produced it and probably not as good a quality. Unfortunately in these hard economic times with people losing their jobs left and right, I see a lot of people dropping out getting this, myself included. But it's an extremely beautiful repro.
Seriously I want this... I would like to set up a payment plan of some kind but I might just try sticking $50 a week into a drawer in the garage until I have enough...
Heck I'd pre-pay which would wind up being "pay on-time" via automatic bill-pay from my checking account. I know if I pass I'll regret it...

Pending there's a light at the end of the tunnel of this whole economic mess (which has killed my business), maybe a core group who can't afford the entire cost now could chip in together and pay REL to keep an extra set of molds around for a future run? That price could then be deducted off of the total cost of those who purchase the kit later when things (hopefully) clear up. Just an idea...
I really wanted one for the scaled SS Endor landing platform I had already bought materials for but like many others can't afford the shuttle the way things are going here right now.

I too am very interested in this kit. I've been following it since the first post. It would be a privilege to own this piece, excellent work!
I'm anxiously awaiting the final numbers and opening of the order list. Hopefully, it will be before my wife allocates the tax return elsewhere...timing is everything.

I'm molding this right now, I had to make a few minor changes to some of the parts to make that easier.
Thanks to some great advice from Frank, the main body will be one piece, hollow fiberglass. It'll be like a rotocast part, only in lighter/stronger fiberglass. I should have pics of the first castings in about a week.
Please pm or post here for those that are interested.
Thanks
Forgot to add that the price is going to be $875 plus shipping, and I can probably only afford to do one set of molds on this so when it's gone it's gone.
That sucks I know, but this project was started way before the economy dove off a cliff, but we're too far along to quit now so I want to see it finished.
For overseas orders, please PM me as I have a way to ship it to you at a reasonable price.
If you dont mind a newbie for chiming in,im in for sure.
You can be a life saver for a guy who can only access a toy for SW ships!
I dont mind for the 'normal' price for shipping,as long as the customs cant screw it up.
Yes...interested

Interested - thanks for keeping this project going.
