Hey guys

Began fiddling with this kit today, im building Red Leader and want to build me an ultimate T65.
therefore im using the top hero hull half, and lower CC kit hull, reason for this is i have it good authority the Red 1's proton tubes are in the original CC position (thanks Mike ). The lower hull has had to be raised to hero std's so ive used a 2mm sheet of styrene to bulk her up to the correct level.
Theres a lot of clean up a putty work to be done to what you see here, but im looking forward to seeing this come along, ive already got someone to commision a working S foil hinge system so ill keep all posted on that too.
Maybe i wont have to go to MR for a decent hero X wing afterall lol.

That looks good! Always wondered about the proton tube placement on that one. Hey! Keep us informed on the working S-Foils. I'm very interested in that - especially, if someone wanted to offer a mod...

Looking good! I look forward to your progress shots. I'm also intrigued with the working S foil hinge system! Wouldn't mind getting a couple if they become available.

Heres the hull so far, it took a lot of putty/sanding work blending in the mod plate on the lower hull, but now shes in auto matt black, the proportions are looking better.
Should have the motorised wing unit in a week or two so i can figure out wiring routes and grafting on the buttplate neatly.
Plan was to put a 9v for the electrics in an engine can, if i cut a place for the cell to sit in the engine intake plate, it will fit nicely, i can then fit magnets to the engine can to access the battery.
Failing that, ill have to make a base and accomodate a power source in there, maybe with a recomended (thanks Allan) jack plug fitted to the underside of the hull.

Working on the cans while i wait for the motor unit. As it goes, im told red1 uses all type B cans, therefore they all have the thick bar detail. I ony have two of these in my kit, so im using the SaturnV cans and modding them to fit. This build is turning out pretty interesting as im getting to do some scratchbuilding too

lee

Not the most interesting pics sorry guys lol, but ive added the can backwalls, ill get to plating them tommorow. It will be a nice thing to start showing some pretty pics, so hang in there, i work so bloomin slow!

Ok so shes up on the mount now, im just waiting on the S foil motor unit and i can carry on with the hull work. Also just hanging on for the B type cans from Mike (thanks Mike ) I need all four for red 1 as you know and i decided to get them straight from him!
Gotta pretty much carry on with clean up on other parts now and get the mount and base painted, then work out the wiring situation, may go for onboard power, but with the base being holllow i reckon the power in the base will suffice with a jack plug fitted. Hoping to mount the pusher switch for the wings under R2.
I think with the canopy tacked on the shape is good, to me the proportions seem good.

This is a whole new level of scratch building for me The gear box for Lee's s-foil box had to be built to fit in the very limited space between the upper and lower hull. Try number six and motor number four finaly worked out. Heres what the gearbox looks like:

The biggest problem is dealing with the weight of all that resin.
Should have it finished soon
