I dont know why but from time to time I prefer to look at the non-hero side of my walker. Can't explain it, but it looks very good w/o any detail !

And it doesnt affect the front view, when you add greeblies on the non hero side of the legs you add thickness and the front profile is looking wrong.
I think it's just matter of replicating what would be a real AT-ST or replicating the stop-mo model. Just my 2 cents.

I'm with you Julien, I still Like the idea of it being a real Version, I guess I'll know more when I get an armature and start on the legs etc.... This will bug me for months.

I don't know what you are blabbering on about Guy.... she looks pretty darn sweet to me! Bit of polish and a second layer of primer and she's a real beauty

Can't help you on the hero-only first both sides detailed question. I'm still on the fence on this subject as well... I do kinda like my models to look "better" than the studio models, just because they are static models and you can see EVERYTHING....

If I were you I'd start with the hero-side only and see how you feel about it once that is completed....

BTW, any news about another armature run? I haven't had time to check with local machinists yet...

    as for "real" vs. "studio"...
i think it boils down to kinda deep psych question of what you appreciate about the films...

do you enjoy the ships themselves...think of the world as being fascinating...remember sweet moments as a child playing with your toys and pretending to fight those little battles --- then you'll likely go with the "real" version.

or perhaps you appreciate the actual making of the film....the process of considering what would look good for filming...the process of what's efficient to produce just for the sake of "getting the shot". perhaps you're a purist in the film history sense -- then you'll likely go to the "studio" version.

    just my 2 cents.

Thanks Marvin, my trouble is I know Lee, his work is so so incredible that its hard to believe its hand made, anything I do just seems like its been pulled out of the trash , its a very high bar to strive for but I'm glad it serves cold beer and White Russions.

As for an armature I believe Joe has organised something.

I think it'll be studio for me. Although I can't tell if it's because I'm trying to do less work by not having to add extra parts.

Guy, Lee is a model badass! However, guys like me have followed your builds feeling the exact same you feel about Lee. Remember, you set that bar way up there as well!

About the armature. I won't name anyone right now but there may be something in the works. Sorry, I'd just hate to have anyone bombarded with questions without asking them for permission to release info. But it they are ok with it, I will definitely post any info I know.

Ok, I promised I'd post any info. I regret to inform that there will not be a run from the member (who wishes to remain anonymous) I have been talking to. Through no decision of mine, they have decided that they would only be making three. One for them, one for me and one for Guy. I was hoping for a run but again, that is not up to me. The decision was made mainly because the armatures are being made by hand and it would be too much for the machinist to commit to a run. Very understandable and I respect their decision. It's not my place to do so, but I still apologize if people were expecting me to get a run started.

Sorry to hear that Joe ... but great to hear, that you guys can proceed on your projects ...

My run of armatures is currently on halt ... it seems that my CNC friend is busy doing other stuff .. like snowboarding :-/

So I can't make any promises for a run .. but I'll really, really, really do whatever I can, to make it happen.

That's a real shame Joe. I was secretely gathering parts for a build of my own. I do hope Krok is able to put something together....

I know guys! I'll be honest, I was approached about this project so I never tried to push the issue of a run. When I recently asked them if a run was possible I was given a respectable answer.

Thanks mate, I guess I hide all the mods and redo's pretty well . I just need to take a couple of mm of the hero side plate and re attach the croc part and its nearly done aside from the base and chin gun mount. It'll be hard putting it down till the armature arrives, I think that why I'll have a crack at the battle damaged head variant.

Love seeing the progress on this chicken!

I talked to a machinist about creating the armature using Quincy's plans and I got a price quote around $435 ea (plus shipping). It would require a fairly large run though, so I wasn't sure if it would be worth it.

It would be a run of 33. Not sure if there are that many people who would be interested.

Yikes, its more likely to be around 5 or 6 takers I'd think?

Guy lets face it, i think youll peak at 6, at least it would shock me if you had 10 down and paid up.
Dont even think the first run got many at all, and back then, it had never been attempted as a replica.
Its a Marmite prop i feel, so many think of a chicken walker, and right away the image of the ROTJ pops in there head.

For 12 armatures I was quoted at $650 ea. Now, if I could get 50 people interested, the cost would be around $350 ea.

Edit: I just realized that the quote I got is bumpkiss as they only quoted for a single leg . Hopefully I will get some new numbers soon and maybe that will make the difference.

I know mate, the shame is I was one of those that always liked the ROTJ version a lot more than the ESB, until now that is, the thing with this build is you can see it come to life. I have so much respect for this model now its a total turnaround. Julien nailed the ROTJ and I doubt it will ever be a nailed again, up close it really really is beyond amazing. I do feel though now that this is something I will be proud of for years to come, especially knowing how I felt about even the thought of trying to make one.

For a run of 10 people I think is a tough challenge, I would seriously recommend people try though as it is simply stunning once it comes together, I haven't even started the body Legs but but would just be happy with a head

Its worth us putting a list together just to see numbers (out of interest).

Any how back to the (not such a Turkey) walker.
Again today schoolboy errors a plenty but I have managed to turn em all around without re making parts or smashing my head against a wall. The big headache today was the side plating, I'm trying not to just cut n paste from the amazing ref that Q and Alan have to offer I want to feel it more than duplicate it. This however has its drawbacks. Initially I made it too small, I could have started again but decide to try and extend it before I use up the remaining pull from Q. I had to glue strip styrene along the back edge to extend it 3-4 mm and then trim back to size. I think I've got it closer now and hopefully no join will be seen???

The guns are just place and not attached yet as I still need to make the bottom plate. I am so chuffed with the results I could cry
