Looks like REL's version. I guess he might have sold the masters to efx!

Yeah, if there is enough interest, they might do a version of it.

The Mock up was to test interest.

Very cool. Glad to see REL confirmed that it was his (because it pretty much had to be). Congrats on eFX picking it up.

Re: EFX Mcquarrie X-wing

No offense to Rich meant by this but I'd much rather see EFX produce actual Studio Scale models from the film rather than things Rich and Moe/Frank etc can produce here that are top quality. Whats the point of having a GK world when EFX just copy the GKers???

How about something new from EFX, its quite lazy to put one of Rich's models up and hope for interest, I'd like to see some balls and have them show a "..........." thats new to us all. Heck if they really want to hit the nail on the head how about a probe droid???? There are so many things actually used in the films not touched yet, I do think just one new decent SS product from them could really blow us all away. Even a Tie bomber would be a sold out item for sure, or AT-ST or Twin pod, or Jedi Skiff, or even if the McQ concept stuff is a must how about a concept snow speeder, Still new to the GK world and license world. A little lack of vision for me at the mo.

Still, this is not to take away from Rich's damn fine work on the Q X wing,

Come'on efx how about an escape pod from ANH?

Re: EFX Mcquarrie X-wing

Guy, I see this differently. Rich's model was incredible but didn't sell much because of this limited audience we have in the hobby. This is the chance to take that excellence to a larger world and actually sell some of them...hopefully. They could probably do the same with the slave that Frank and Moe are making. You know all that's gone on about how a kit of the slave would be expensive and nearly impossible.

Those are great ideas for other offerings efx could make. But I think that the problem right now for guys like efx AND garage kit makers is that you have to find a big enough audience that will actually be willing to pay for enough of them in order to make sense producing them.

Totally see that point Scott, its my wording that didn't come across, its more that they are looking into a concept ship over an actual screen used ship. To be viewing this at SDCC pretty much means that there isn't anything new on the cards any time soon. If EFX actually do make the slave 1, which I'm pretty sure those in the know will alredy know if things are happening

Then the shipping to UK would be so over the top it would be cheaper to buy the kit from Those that may or may not produce it.

As for numbers, thats why I suggest them making one of the more Iconic models like the PD. Nothing is for sure these days, I'm sure Frank will contest to this with interest and actual sales of ships like the E wing. I totally understand that it has to be an iconic piece to get the big sales, I just wish like I said that some balls where applied to test the water. I really love the McQ concept stuff, as much as the next guy but would rather spend my hard earned cash on actual movie SS replicas first. Rich has provided us all with an amazing McQ X wing, Interest at SDCC in Rich's model will mean nothing to sales at efx for the same thing produced by them. A hole stream of people will walk past it every day and go "wow", I did the same with the Sideshow Speeder bike at CIV, I had to have it the min I saw it. Did I buy one? No, for a hole bunch of reasons but still a no sale, they did sell out though.

If I was at SDCC and saw a B wing on the EFX stall, even if it was one of Moe's to test the water I would be a hole lot happier than seeing the McQ X wing. Then, there could be the argument that its not that iconic and only has a few seconds screen time.... 2 words "Boba Fett".

There are enough of us nutters for EFX to produce SS ships in the mid to high hundreds. I'd rather pay £2k for a slave than never have one. Like I've said before I'd even pay to paint one if I thought I'd never get the chance to own one, if it becomes such a ltd kit or build up and never produced by a licensed company then I truly would

Re: EFX Mcquarrie X-wing

How does that work when a company buys someone's model or moulds they produced as in Richards RMQ X-wing does he get any royalties from future sales Like Sienfeld for his syndicated re-runs? I bought one back in last December for X-mas for myself when I saw it I remember having that drawing on my wall as a kid I knew I had to have one.

Re: EFX Mcquarrie X-wing

Id have thought its a full on sale, just the masters and any molds, much like what happened to the NiceN Y wing?

Guy, do you really think a licensed company should be let anywhere near the Slave, please no lol.

TBH i do agree, while im no fan of licensed Studio scale (i have my reasons that may offend some lol) i think its high time they jumped on some subjects.

Its tricky, this economy doesnt allow a huge disposable income for so many, but there are still collectors that cant build, but enjoy displaying these kind of props.

Im still to see a licensed SW replica that knocks my socks off, quite a few have seemed a bit of a cop out, but eFX seem to be serious about the TIE, i mean, why would it be soooo delayed?

Re: EFX Mcquarrie X-wing

Easy answer - the same reason MR bought Neisen's crews Y-Wing. There is zero (or very very very little) R&D for the product. It's a turn key project, and saves a TON for the company. No costly 3d files, no engineering, really... just present a build the Lucasfilm's licensing agent, and if approved, you're off to the races. Very appealing dynamic.

As before I 100% totally understand this process and thats great if it can be done this way for them and for Rich, my hole bang is that why not produce an actual screen used SS model, The Tie is awesome, I still dont know why I didn't buy one , but I didn't.

Like I said if it was Moe's B wing on display I'd be jumping like a hot banana in bag of wool, the hows and why's are not my issue at all. I'd just like to see them have a crack at something not yet done by a licensed company. They have every resource available to do a great job on a new SS model, they know the pit falls of past creations & desires of us nutters to pick out a subject that will have mass appeal.

This is where I hope Moe is just sealing the box of parts thats being sent to EFX.

Re: EFX Mcquarrie X-wing

REL's model of the design can't be faulted. The design can, though, to me at least. While it looks great as posed by McQ in his painting, it does not look so from all angles, especially the back. Wings for me give off a whiff of cardboard toilet roll tubes glued to cardboard (not REL's prob, it's the design. It'd still look that way if made out of steel). The irony is though that if you gave the X-wing to Apple's Jon Ive to design, it'd certainly look more like this than the Johnston/McCune final version. But for me such a dreamy lightness of touch is utterly wrong for the character and role of the ship in the story. It's too simple, too simple for the rugged yet noble-looking steed upon which our hero rides. Lacks the real-world weight that Lucas rightly required from every element in the film. The final design has that in spades.

Can't say I'm a fan. I suppose I'm a bit of a film snob; the final designs are what I fell in love with as a kid watching these movies.

I like almost everything prerelease. Even John Mollo's thumbnail "sketches". They are innocent artifacts before anyone knew it would be a success.. before the dark times, before the repaints. REL absolutely nailed it.
