Come to wonderfest

Almost done "getting ready"! Still weathering....

Oh my! It looks just like the images of its inspiration!!! Looks like my camera is going to have to shoot at least a few pictures of this one.

So when the decision was made to go with red stripes instead of blue, did they add to the weathering on the model? Or did it stay more or less the same overall, just with different stripe colorings?

I hope they are there both days!

RE: Blue 1 - yeah, it was re-weathered. They painted over the blues, added one more stripe for Red 2, painted the cockpit canopy, added a decal (or more likely, swapped out laser cannons with one of the original Hero-painted Pyros!!!), added an artoo, broke the canopy bars out (to insert a cockpit and pilot), grafted in thinner weird canopy bars, possibly retrofitted the thing for lighting (because the engine bodies look broken/reglued, and the surgical tubing looks to be aggressively punched into the wing areas), modified the armature (almost crudely at the wing roots), shot some darker grey coloration, some soot, drew weird extra blue/gray lines on the engines - it looked brighter/whiter as Blue 1, and the more familiar putty color as Red 2, at least ten years ago.

I also think this was done after it came back from Elstree obviously - and the pilot was painted a lot like the X-Wing Pilots...

Oh, and a few extra greeblies were added to the side mount cover, and of course, the brass bits for power on the sides...

Surreal... I get to meet two of the Bearded Ones™ from the pics I studied as a kid. I AM EXCITED

Hey Guys, i just checked the site and it looks like Richard has had to cancel because of a shooting schedule in Louisiana.

Im still not decied on the show but may ride up for it. I will try to wear something so I stick out an can meet some of you guys.

Well Lorne Peterson is a scream, Jason. You can talk details and technique with him until your heart is content. He geeks out so hard!:love

Oh, and I'd kill to be within driving distance.

Still jazzed. Lorne Peterson sounds co cool from what I've heard - gonna be a trip!! Pat McClung is a cool guy too (met him a couple years ago) - he made the Probe Droid pods, so that'll be cool - I'm bringing mine! Last tim ewe talked, I was still planning/building them, and he was surprised someone would care, lol - I told him how much time and effort people like Lee put into them, and he was impressed (or scared - hehe).

And we'll have Gene K's beard, so I won't feel as bad ;)

... Lorne Peterson ... Pat McClung ...

Sounds like a great event, with all you guys and those ILM pros in the same place.

Would you mind asking if they remember how exactly Capt. Needa's shuttle looked like? I know they used a TIE ship and attached the wings / radiator panels (from Vader's fighter) inside out - i.e. bent outboard.

*BUT* what model did they use for the fuse? The MPC Vader, a SS bomber, something else?

I am researching for 3 decades now, but have no definite answer... Any help would hence be greatly appreciated!

Sorry for the hijack.

Cheers and have a good time,
Falk

Sounds great. I'm envious. If I were going, I'd take my V3 and a stack of hero x ref in the hope of asking the ILMers for an appraisal re fuselage proportions. They quite possibly would not have an opinion given it was so long ago that they were in the same room as an ILM X-wing but then again, they might, you never know...or they might say, 'well, whatever the difference, it's so meaningless you must be an insane and dangerously anal freak not to be satisfied with this gorgeous kit', lol...

I entered my Blue Leader in the contest in '09 so I can't re-enter it. I wasn't going to bring it because of that. Should I still bring it though?

If you'd like to, sure - put it on the table with my Blue 1?

Do you have any other studio scale models?

Guys, I doubt Lorne Peterson is going to remember the millimeters on an X-Wing (why would he care, lol?) they were all a little different anyway, right? I'll ask about Needa's shuttle - I had no idea they did that! Where is it in the film?!

Pat McClung built the Probe Droid pods, and I chatted him up about them last year, so it'll be nice to show him the follow through.

I have a Slave 1 armature question for Lorne Peterson, but honestly, it's probably silly to expect any "HARD ANSWERS" that nerds like us crave. Now, if he has a drawing or a photo, there's your answers. But oral recollections? I can't remember how I built a model I made a couple years ago, how can we think they'd remember something from 1975 or 1979?
