![]() Thank you for your rapid reply. I agree with you, too. This is right a part of the filming model of X-WING. This pilot was also used for STANDARD TIE, X1,INTERCEPTOR. The helmet of this pilot looks just like the illustration of Joe Johnston. When the production of STAR WARS began, the helmet of the pilot of rebels might be this kind of full helmet. However, IMO, this full helmet would not be adopted because it was hard to recognize the face of the actor with full helmet and audiences might not recognize who was red leader and who was luke. lol lol Possibly John Dykstra decided not to adopt the full helmet because of blue screen problem. ![]() Quote:

![]() I love your RED JAMMER building and your instruction sheet is awesome, too! I only have contributed article that I was interested during building RED2 every time. BTW, some continuances of the yesterday's full helmet discussion…. Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rodgers, those TV-movies made after Star Wars did not adopt full helmet also. Actually, the Tutankhamun-helmet of Galactica was some kind of hull helmet, but had no front screen. IMO, John Dykstra decided not to adopt the front screen of helmet because of the reflection of front screen caused bad effect against composition process with blue screen. However, Dykstra adopted a full helmet in Firefox in 1982 that he was in charge of special effects. Yes, Firefox was a little bit different, it’s a real world story not a space fantasy world, CLINT WASTWOOD used full helmet with front screen in that movie, but his helmet’s front screen was big and transparent so we could recognize CLINT’s face well. And most scenes CLINT in Firefox cockpit were from the front of Clint, If my memory is right ... . I thought that this was to avoid a composition process with the side background(blue back). And Fire Fox was one man escape movie, not had many dog fights like STAR WARS so we did not need to recognize many actors. Well, this is only my guess….

A Happy New Year! everyone!
![]() It is just the beginning of new year! But, sorry, because of my job is very busy until March, building of RED2 may not proceed. ![]() I wanna go step by step even if it might go very slowly.

Re: CCX remodeling ! into X-WING RED2
HI!
![]() I have started the remodeling of rear section. I trimmed the rear plate and guessed the rear section size of RED2 from trimmed rear plate. Of course this was only my guess-work, might not match precisely to original prop. lol lol "The Star Wars blue print" was a very expensive book, but it was very helpful for this work. I think it will take long time to finish this work because of heavy modification on the fuselage must be needed.

Re: CCX remodeling ! into X-WING RED2
Hi!
The remodeling of the rear section of the fuselage just began. It seems to take long time to complete such a complex work. ![]() BTW, I scratched a new part of RED2. I made a bid for a first edition of StugIV in Japanese auction at the end of last year. At last I scratched a tiny part on the rear side of engine. To tell the truth, I scratched this part several years ago, but used styrene sheets because I did not have a first edition of StugIV. You may know, this part was changed to metal part after renewal of StugⅣ kit. Only first edition and the kit before renewal has this kind of plastic part. Now BANDAI stopped the production of StugⅣ and Hummel, such kind of 1/15 tank kit. Most of the kit that we can find in auction or ebay is the kit after renewal. When you make a bid for StugⅣ, please be careful. ![]() This time I cast the part of StugIV and trimmed the cast part to attach the part of the Hasegawa 1/72 M-4 sherman. I could not sacrifice the part because the StugⅣ kit was an expensive and rare. Thanks for looking...

Re: CCX remodeling ! into X-WING RED2
I'm sorry. I was lacking in explanation.
![]() The plastic part is clearly different from a metal part in a shape. ILM used this plastic part. I attach a comparison pic. Thanks for looking!

![]() Just a little update. I cast the droid strip. I used white resin first, after that used gray resin for the first time. Gray resin is more useful to find bubbles on the cast part than white resin. I am satisfied with a result. Thanks for looking. |

Great work thanks for sharing. |

![]() I would become an old man when I finished to build a RED squadron. To tell the truth, I wanna build RED1(YABIN BASE studio size mockup : landing version), and of course RED5 in the future. And about cast part of droid strip... I cast many droid strips as a spare. Only as a spare...not for sale. ![]() Junk Pilot! That's an interesting idea. ![]() Well, there will be something new to think about. But I’m sorry, I do not have such kind of idea as of now. As you know, for collecting vintage kits, perseverance and many expenses would be needed. ![]() But I may change my mind in the future. I will inform you then. |

![]() A casting part totally looks like a plastic model part by using gray resin. It is very interesting. I recommend it. With this gray resin, I am gonna challenge the casting of a new part again on this weekend. Don't miss it! |

Hi! Julien-san.
![]() I have cast a rear plate a lot with white resin. It's already enough for me. I must sell them if I cast furthermore. lol lol Actually, it is one of a part of wing parts. And it is also very rare and a rather important part for X-WING building. I have talked to you about this part before. |

Re: CCX remodeling ! into X-WING RED2
Hi!
One day I received the envelope from foreign country and found a long-awaited thing in it. That’s HO BRICK SHEET! ![]() YES! HO BRICK SHEET was provided to me from one of very kind foreign friend. I appreciated his act very much. He did not demand anything about this. What a good guy! ![]() I want to use all of this for CCX-RED2, but if I do so I must look for HO BRICK SHEET again for building another X-WING in future. Therefore I decided to cast this HO BRICK SHEET. Because it was a very thin product like paper, I thought it was very difficult to cast it. But I was able to make a casting product of the available level. Would you look at that? Last edited by atom; 01-21-2012 at 08:36 PM. |

A little update.
![]() I attached BRICK SHEET to wing. The BLUE1 pic of the CD from STUDIO SCALE DECAL of Jason was very useful to attach the BRICK SHEET. Thank you, Jason! |

Re: CCX remodeling ! into X-WING RED2
Hi! all. Sorry for the long absence.
![]() The making of master pattern of the rear section of RED2 was completed. Because I needed the precision of the parts like the parts of plastic model, I sanded lateral parts many times for fitting nicely with the top and the bottom. Therefore it took me long time to complete. ![]() I'm gonna cast all parts from now on. The top and the bottom are basic parts. I have a plan to make the rear section of RED3 and RED5 by remaking of lateral parts.

About RED2, I have few reference pics of the fuselage itself, especially bottom of fuselage, I must build it by my imagination. Please stay tuned.

Re: CCX remodeling ! into X-WING RED2
Hi all,
I just would like to say great job as usual atom! And... I've found a lot of stock of H&R HO brick sheets. They say HO-101 WIDE on one end and HO-101 on the other. I'm assuming they're elongated compared to the normal bricks, but they also match up well with the EFX x-wing. But they're not as defined as the EFX part. They look more van-formed as they actually are. Can anyone confirm that these sheets might work? I've got a large sheet of it and can share with anyone needing it for their build, as long as the build is in progress and there's an immediate need. I'll just put it in an envelope and mail it off. Sound good? |
