Hey guys,
workingon a future release here and am trying to track down these 2 parts from the Arfix 1/600 Scharnhorst. I am willing to pay for the entie kit or if someone wants to donate the two parts from thier spares Box! I will remember those who help greatly when I release this "secret" project!

Has anybody identified the "wheel" piece behind the "flash surpressor" at the front end of the X-Wing Cannon? i.e. Not the M-8 piece on the rear. I thought it might be from a 1/32nd scale Monogram German Pzr. IV chassis or an aircraft wheel. This piece at one time was once identified as a wheel coming from the Bandai 1/15th Scale Hummel, which is much too large.

It's not the wheel, it's the return roller - the much smaller wheel that the tank tracks run along at the top. The size is just right, and the back part of the return roller looks exactly right as well. The only problem with the part is that if you put the appropriate amount of taper on it, you pretty much run out of lip. If you look very carefully at the Art of Star Wars picture of Red 3, you can see that there's a line towards the rear of the roller. Unless somebody has better information, I'm inclined to think that it's the Hummel roller with a tapered sleeve from somewhere else. Alternatively, the outer wall of the roller might have been heated and teased inwards, "potter's wheel" style. Do you have a picture of the Monogram part?

Unfortunately I don't, but there is a Monogram kit on eBay that I was tempted to bid on just to verify if they used any of the wheel/roller parts. Monogram luckily made German armour w/ just the IV chassis, one kit should resolve this question.

Returned to the prop/model display at the Planet Hollywood store in Downtown Disney (Orlando) & took lotsa pics.
First:
An R2 strip on a Death Star surface piece...
...yielded a good look at its remaining mystery pieces:
The round half-domes and the rectangular piece with rivets at the corners...
...and the wheel-like halves; Frank used Matilda wheels on his but 'basher reported a year and a half ago that those aren't the right ones.
Indeed, they have non-centered details and no center hole, meaning they aren't wheels, IMO.
Next:
The same Death Star piece had two of the pieces that butt up against the cannons on the wings of the X:

Seen plainly on the remains of poor Red 4, the Sealab III part under the engine exhaust nozzles:

Apart from the exploded pyro there was a completed X hanging from the ceiling, with a very plain paintjob. Not sure of its origins, but will post pics later...there are some interesting aspects about it that will probably help some of you peg where it came from (ILM? CC? ICONS?).
HEy the part that goes under the xwing gun is from the back deck of the Tamiya 1/35 M4E3 #35122 Sherman.. looks like its not the Hasagawa.. ooops worng picture. Go grab the Tamiya kit and look at the engine deck grill.. There it is. they added some styrene in the center as a mount but look at the shaded green area. will update pic or does someone have one?

It's not the Hasegawa, but now that you mention it, it does look a lot like an M4A3 Sherman part.
Brain FART! Its from the Tamiya 1/35 M4A3 has the same grill as the Easy 8.. When I found it originally I just wrote down the tank.. its 1/35 scale Tamiya Kit # 35122. I went to the box opened it and I have already cut the deck off the back of it! Just got con-fussed.. NOTE write down all info when you find a part!!

Ack - this is going to sound like a horrible nitpick, but count the bolts between the hinges. The Tamiya has four; the part we want has five...
hey guys I recently just got back into building my xwing been down with back injury
I had my harrier kit out and though what if the lower intakes were cut from the harrier engines the only hitch is the material is not quite thick enough sorry if this is old hash
also saw the stug mentioned I tried my bandai kits and the hummel nor panther nor tiger will do it seems the only one I don't have is the stug
what program is everyone using to highlight parts I have adobe ilistrator but damned if I can figure it out

You are correct sir.. 1 rivet off.. Ok.. then its on to the Bandai 1/48 M4A3E8 see if that pans out.. or anyother M4 kits in 1/35 scale

What if one were to fill up the inside with zap-a-gap or similar, or putty up the cavity and cast it? One would then not run out of lip.
To be honest, I think I may have made a mistake about the amount of lip that would be left. It looks as though you can put enough taper on and still have a very thin lip left over:
Looking at the head-on photo of Red 1 in Chronicles, it seems that the outside lip is extremely thin.

I just recently got back at my xwing project, and find my earlery dim's were off I want to throw these at you guys and see waht you think
fuzy length w/o nose=46 cm
wingspan=46.5 cm tip to tip across fuzy
enginelength phatom parts only=15.5cm
aft fuzy height=8.5cm
aft fuzy width=7cm
butt plate including fuzy width=8.3
noseconelength=6.8cm
nosecone width=3.6cm
nosecone height=3.3cm
length of fuzy from tip to cockpit=17 cm
cockpit length=9.5cm
back of cockpit to front wing opening=5.5cm
front wing opening to back of fuzy=12cm
(now when the butt plate and surrounding fuzy are attached you get 2 cm's longer and total fuzy length is 46cm)**********
cockpit width=5cm
cockpit fuzy height at seatback=2.2cm
across the cockpit and fuzy=6.4cm
across front wing opening=8cm
distance between thse two dims=8cm
this is where the maxi and hasbro xwings are off the most
I am using a hasbro fuzy but it has been cut and chopped greatly since the availability to find a maxi is 1 in a million
one thing I really need to confirm with you guys is the width of the side rails next to (housing the r2strip) you have the r2 strip and then the fuzy rises up and create rails that run either side of the strip back aft I come up with 5/16 wide

the conical shapes that are one either side of the r2 srtip up front could these conceivably be the cone of the command module from the 1/44 saturn V
looks close vut not sure if anyone has tired to slice it in half

Thanks for the dims; it'd be interesting to see how they compare with others', if they choose to post them. I'll see how they compare with my "actual size" blowups.
I'll check the Saturn cone but IRRC it doesn't have the same texture.
I don't know of another use for the Whitley but, logically, it must've been used somewhere...unlikely a box full of parts would go ignored!

Those guns have already been IDed as yet another donation from the 1/72 Hasegawa Sherman.
Just confirming Steve's find for the part under the laser cannons: The 1/35 motorized Tamiya M4A3E8 (MT218). Looks like they're pretty easy to get hold of; I think I paid way over the odds for mine. The fact that it still has the original price sticker (for $3) doesn't help...
