This past spring and summer have taken a toll on me, both in time/scheduling, and in my approach to the hobby (suffered a MAJOR distraction that rendered my opinion of the hobby in general as "behind me").
But not to worry; I'm over the hump and re-building my interest. And a project of this scope can never be left undone...
Kinda spooky, but I thought of this build this morning, wondering what hapened to it. Good to hear your back.

I ACTUALLY WORKED on this thing today!
What's killed me in the hobby in general is that my kids soccer has taken the dmominant role in my recreational life, over props. I now coach both kids in two seasons a year.
But just to calibrate, I have a few sections of cityscapes that I have to redo due to yellowing clear coat (not much - about a square foot of surface). Still have most of the lights on the upper dome and trench to do. And I am strongly thinking about sanding down all the detail on the dish and re-doing it with adhesive paper (like the real one).

Dedication over a long period is tough but it looks great. Glad you're still on it.
I think they used vinyl tape as they did on the X-Wing engine cans Rob, you should give it a try !

I have a tri-pod, and am getting better with adjusting aperture and shutter speed, so ideally I'll be able to share better pics of the lights on the DS.

Hoping to find the time to get back on it. As I've mentioned, I now coach four soccer teams a year (both kids, fall and spring), and my son's team won the south Orange County championship, which means we play again in early February. Then Spring soccer begins in March. And most of the past month has seen much time devoted to setting up the spring teams.
So not much down time in between. But I'm looking for time to work on it!
This is gotta be one of the coolest projects I've seen in a long time. I admire your longevity sir.
