Re: Anh escape pod research thread
I guess the first thing to work out would be an accurate bucket size for this model.
It has been stated that a 5 Quarts Paint Bucket was used. The bucket was said to be filled with foam, stripped & covered with styrene. Any refernce of confirmation would be great. I will try to estimate a dimension from kit parts today. |

Starting with mapping.
I will post completed maps in the first post aswell as putting a confirmed next kit names once parts have been 'confirmed'. Working on a Map for the Hero side now. Does anyone have any reference of the other side? Cant find any... All help greatly appreciated. UPDATED 28-05-2011 MAPS MOVED TO POST #1

Re: Anh Escape Pod Research Thread
Hey Eric thanks.
I actually had the Hasegawa M4A3E8 & the PanzerIII Ausf m/n on my updated map... Part #9 on 2nd pic is some part that is sitting on the Saturn v part. Its a ring sitting around the circular raised Saturn V Part? Is it the part cut from the top of the module houseing? Cheers mate. Glad to have you on board. |

Lorne Peterson reiterated last week that two paper paint buckets filled with foam and clad with styrene were the starting point for the Escape Pod. They did something similar to build out the "hammerhead" cockpit for the Blockade Runner when that ship was converted from the "Pirate Ship." Now whether that was a 5-quart bucket or another size is up for debate. I don't think Peterson himself ever gave the dimensions of the bucket. I'm pretty confident Rolando ("Echoleader") said he used the 5-quart bucket when he built the pattern that Steve N used as the basis for his kit, but that was years ago. |

Re: Anh Escape Pod Research Thread
Also keep in mind that when you're looking at the bottom of the model, you're not necessarily looking at the bottom of the bucket, but what appears to be an additional tapered section added to the bottom of the bucket (or the narrower section of the bucket, if the original bottom was removed).

Re: Anh Escape Pod Research Thread
All this has reminded me of the time I passed on 15 Fruehauf's for $3 each at a Big Lots in South Carolina. There were 18 and I only bought 3. DOH!!!!!!

I decided to just get the dimensions & build the base structure rather than chase buckets though am still looking at buckets as possibilities. Ive figure that the base circle the engines sits on is about 140-142mm Just over 5 & 1/2" The next ring up which would be the floor is 150-152mm just under 6 & 1/2" The centre rin I believe to be 220mm just under 8 & 3/8" Im still working on these though believe Im with 2mm of an accurate figure. The maps have been updated aswell. |

Re: Anh Escape Pod Research Thread
Jason,
I don't have the Fujimi 1/700 ships but I do know that the Taiho is a perfect match for part #'s 25 on pics 4 & 6 of post 3. Below is a shot with the actual pieces on top of the Fruehauf part. EDIT: Looking at some scans of the Fujimi 1/700 IJN Battleship Kongo, it appears that the guns do not match those on the Escape Pod. (A round of applause for that guys review and kit scan!!!) Also, in pic 4 of post 3, parts #44 are also from the Taiho. Again, I don't have the Shinano, the same part could also be in that kit. However, I just want to clear this up because at first glance, I thought part #44 were the same bits used on the TIE Bomber. I figured somebody else could have made the same mistake. While we are here....what's up with those Hasegawa (etc.) ship kits with similar box art and lettering as Tamiya? I noticed a bunch of these at a Hobby Town USA. Same molds? Joe ![]()

Re: Anh Escape Pod Research Thread
Joe Tamiya, Hasegawa & Aoshima collaborate on the 1/700 Waterline series. Same kits same moulds. Im not 100% about Fujimi. Those AA bateries are used on the rear walls of the Devestator aswell. You will find alot of same parts in each country's ships as the guns were mostly standardised throughout fleets. Your parts are right & will adjust this afternoon. Thanks for the diligence. Some Id's have been given withoit visual confirmation though supplied by members we trust know their stuff. Once I have each kit part I will confirm for sure & adjust the maps accordingly.

Re: Anh Escape Pod Research Thread
Jason,
Part 32 on Picture six (map3jpg.jpg) is the 1/24 Jagdpanther/Panther, not 32 on picture four (map2pjpg.jpg)! Also, do you have a scan of the Marder part for part#12 on either side, under the kubelwagen? I agree it isn't the Monogram or Tamiya 232 (8-rad), as the holes are too far from the part edge, but I can't see a part like that in any Italeri Marder scans. Cheers and keep up the great work John |

Re: Anh Escape Pod Research Thread
No.6 on Map1bJPG (engine section) is part C-5 from the Tamiya Jackson.
They're the tiny tow-hooks set into the barrel-clamps (B-42) from the Hasegawa Sherman. |

Re: Anh Escape Pod Research Thread
Hey JD thanks for that.
I have updated, amended & moved the Maps to POST #1 with the Kit List. Sorry for the mis prints Ive been sick & not concentrating. Ive had lots of ID's from various places & people & just got a little lost. I don't have a scan of the Italeri Marder for varification. I got the Id from an associate thats very good with parts & decided to post it as the Tamiya 8 Rad is 'definately' not the donor. Thought it might spark someone to get a positive so i think I removed it but if I haven't Im about too. Thanks for the progress. Anyone got a picture of the backside of this model? |

Re: Anh Escape Pod Research Thread
Hmm, maybe not M23, but, it does look like an F1 wheel rim inside the Saturn V part.
