Re: 10 Falcons

I've already started the Johnston/mcquarrie concept (similar to the falcon, not the BR) in a 5 foot scale to go with my mcquarrie figs.

I'd really like to the falcon/blockade runner(BR with falcon cockpit and radar dish). I'd love to see the prototype falcon!

That would be sweet!!!

Re: 10 Falcons

Found this in the Art of Ralph McQuarrie book.

May have been a concept for Vader's landing ship.

Re: 10 Falcons

I really liked the "Original Falcon" with the Falcon cockpit and the Blockade Runner body. I've modified a Randy Cooper Corvette so it will look like a sistership to the Millenium called " The Kesslian Barracuda" on this thread over in the General Modelling section. Its based on some of the McQuarrie/Johnson pics. Got some of positive feedback on the design if thats any help on where to go with it
http://www.therpf.com/f11/kessel-barracuda-107518/ I'd certainly get another one like it if you choose that particular build . I'm trying to design different removable pods that will go on to this one, once I finish the main body. Not too far off now. I'm going to end up with a ****load of models to paint at the same time!

it sounds like some people dont know that the first ship shown is one of the early concepts for the falcon, seriously.

I for one didn't know that. I guessed that it was. I asked politely for confirmation and, I think, get the p*** taken out of me for my trouble. For all I knew it could've been a fan variation on the early McQuarrie production paintings, especially with the OP using the phrase 'new version.' I got a load of SW publications but I've never seen that image. Where is it from? I don't own the McQuarrie book. Do I have to be mocked for that?

No mate ya dont.

A lot of people, if not most people, do not know much about the early versions before the burger shaped MF.

I Dont know the publishing origin of the pics, but they have been floating around the net since the late 90s, after "the ship of riddles" page went up. I have a copy i saved into a pdf file if you would like a copy emailed.

Regards

Re: 10 Falcons

Alot of the mock-ups are in the "from star wars to indiana jones" book. But ya, Not many knew of most prototypes. I'm a huge falcon fan, and I'm sure there are some I missed from johnstons sketches

Me love burgers!!! Hmmm..if they ended up using any of those other designs, I wonder if we'd be saying the burger design was wierd. We all grew up on the burger. For me though, whoever evaluated and chose that final design sure did a good job.

Re: 10 Falcons

I believe It was Lucas himself that suggested they go with a "burger shaped craft" after the first aproved designs became simular to the released space 1999 craft.

As many things in Lucasas movies had been nods to earlier work, I always wondered if American grafity had any influence on his choice. RE: "burgers" and the 60's culture.

Just a thought.

Re: 10 Falcons

While there's no disputing the fabulous design of the final Falcon I have to say that back in '77 when I first saw the ship I thought the cockpit and corridor tubes were 'obviously' just bits from a vacuum cleaner stuck on! And I thought that was crap compared to the more sophisticated shapes that formed the Eagle. But then the Falcon's meant to look like crap anyway, but also cool, too - that's the paradox of the thing.
