Worst comes to worst, I'll buy a non-functional real one and just remove he guts... but rather than re-invent the wheel, I figured I'd check with the pros and see if there might be an easier way to get one... alas, my Google-Fu is apparently not up to the task.

Hi Guys!

Well I just scored an original MPC Millenium Falcon Kit from 1978.
Since I am having a rough time finding a Fine Molds Falcon,(at a resonable price),I decided to work on this Kit from the past.

I lucked out in finding it at a Local Collectable shop for a good price!

I really like the Picture of the actual 5' Filming Miniature on the box cover, This kit really brings me back to one I owned in 78!Under the Christmas tree, couldn't wait to build my favorite Star Wars Spaceship!

Anyhoo, My plans are to really trick this model out to represent the 5' as she appeared in Star Wars(A New Hope). It's my personal favorite version of the Falcon.

So I'll be looking for some aftermarket kits for those way too large sidewalls!
I'll keep you guys posted, if you like, and anyone else who has done the same thing, please share what you did here...there may be other guys wanting to do the same thing!!

OK...I have decided I want to build a scale replica of the Ancient Roman Forum and the Theatre of Pompey (two different projects).

I have never actually attempting model making in this manner before and am glad I found this site.

I hope to get some input on where to start, what materials are best, what scale is best, and any tricks and suggestions I can get.

This is to be a project for an educational video for Youtube. No budget...or more accurately very little money. So I will take advantage of every step in some way or another. For example I am sure I will need at least two versions. Small scale and larger scale. The final larger scale must be small enough to be feasible and large enough to be filmed from ground level with a small hand held HD camcorder.

One thought was to use oven bake clay...then I realized I don't even really need that. Regular fire glazed clay will still harden and is cheaper for larger quantities.

I am figuring the larger models will be wood framed boxes covered with sculpted and painted clay. So the more I think about it....regular seems to heavy.

Any ideas?

I have full access of the original car from the original owners for measurements and reference so it will be very accurate. It used to be one of my favorite rides as a kid but it closed down in 1999 unfortunately, being replaced by mission space. (This blog has some of the best pictures of the various elements of the ride from different perspectives: Mesa Verde Times go to the 2nd page) In my opinion it had some of the most interesting designs of vehicles that were supposed to exist sometime in the future. I always wanted replicas of the vehicles and spaceships seen throughout the ride, but it was never around long enough to have any merchandise, except for a few pins. So I decided to try out my first scratch build on this guy:
So basically I decided to do a project where I only had three tiny reference pictures to work with, which I normally would not choose to do, but I had a lot of freedom to add my own personal touches to it. I'm currently about three quarters of the way done and had to put the rest on hold until December for the time being because imp away at college. I just wanted to see what you guys think of this because I know a lot of people on these forums are into Retro Space capsules and stuff. I hope you like it and I'll be posting build up pictures later. I hope you guys like it and remember I'm still very new at this :rolleyes

I've searched the RPF and have seen the various threads about the base color of the Falcon being a mix of colors, but not having an airbrush setup, I'm looking for a basic off white or something that is close enough in a model paint spray can. I'm working on a Fine Molds 1/144 Falcon kit and have dremeled the damage to the hull and various other locations, and am working on mods so I can possibly light the kit. I'll be dirtying it up, but need to find the paint so I can get going on the weathering. Any ideas on a rattle can color that would work the best for the ol' Falcon color?

I saw a camouflage grey mentioned, but picked up a can and it seems too "tan", and I think I saw Insignia white (off white color) as a possible base. There aren't a lot of hobby shops near by, but I found a Hobby Haven that has the Ins. white.

Any info is appreciated! Thanks!:thumbsup
