Very exciting news today.

David Hernly, the creator of his own 3D video game engine HYDRA: Tactical Command Simulator ( https://www.facebook.com/HydraTacticalCommandSimulator) and I have been collaborating on some pretty amazing sci-fi projects as a way of beta testing his software in preparation for release.

Our first collaboration was a resounding success, the single-screen "BOOTH" time machine from the Untitled Webseries (formerly known as "Inspector Spacetime" from NBC's community), voiced by Mayim Bialik PhD of Big Bang Theory and Blossom.

<img src="http://www.therpf.com/attachments/f9/building-brain-trust-greatest-tardis-simulator-ever-constructed-969364_614411948570271_226005268_n.jpg-187251d1369117103t" border="0" alt="Click image for larger version.
The "Spacetme" single screen UI is a simple proof-of-concept on our way to a fully interactive multi-screen and multi-interface simulator for Paul Salamoff's screen used McGann TARDIS console (which I helped restore last year) on our way to the grad-daddy of all simulators, the full Star Trek TNG bridge where all 10 stations can be used to pilot the Enterprise.

David and I are in the beginning talks to sort out what we want the simulator to do, what functions we want the various controls on the console to control, etc...

Right now the plan is to make the TARDIS similar to the planned TNG bridge NASA charity outreach simulation where kids can fly through the universe and learn about various planets and stars, with the added benefit on the TARDIS that each place you visit you can roll through a "Time Travel" timeline to see the past and future as stars go nova or civilizations rise and fall. On my way back from a charity gig with my James Bond car in Vegas yesterday afternoon David and I had a conference call to work out the "timeline" logic, and it's going to knock your socks off.

The finished TARDIS simulator will be carefully constructed so that the screen-used 100 year old scientific controls on the screen used console will be used with arcade cabinet PS2 keyboard adapters so fans can literally pilot the TARDIS through virtual space using the ORIGINAL CONTROLS (minus the few that I've already wired up for sound or lights). A collection of smaller tablets and screens will replicate the Art Deco TV status display from the film as well as similar designed "outside the police box" and "vortex real-time" views, and a projector will light up the ceiling or wall with the main screen to give the 'Planetarium' effect from the film.

HYDRA TCS already has all of the logic in place for anything we can think of - but I'd love to hear from all of the astoundingly creative minds on the RPF of you with any ideas you have for what you'd like to see the TARDIS do at a convention.

1. What planets would you like to see or what actions would you like to be able to do while "piloting" the McGann TARDIS console? Keep in mind that this is based around the logic of a multi-user spaceship flight simulator, so most of the great 3D work and logic we have to work with involves flying through space and interacting with other ships + planets. However, we will have an "outside view" of the police box on a separate monitor where you can land the TARDIS on various planets in any land, sea, or air environments or 'pilot' the ship through various planet-based locations.

2. HYDRA TCS is a logic engine based around HTML5, so we can use any still art (any format that can be manipulated in Photoshop) as part of our art deco-esque heads up displays. I'm blown away by the creativity in this forum creating various 3D TARDIS and console models. Any 3D models in the usual formats (blender, lighwave, Unity, etc.) would also come in handy to give us a nice toolbox of objects to interact with while flying through the Whoniverse. Anyone who would like to contribute and join the "Spacetime" art team in making the simulator look as good as it can be, please contact me - we'd love to have you as part of the design team.

Quick disclaimer: This TARDIS simulator will never be offered for sale or released for any other use with any other prop or organization. It is a one-off project for Paul Salamoff's screen used TARDIS console ONLY so fans can enjoy it at the various conventions we visit, and like the "Spacetime" console it is designed to be a fun way to beta-test the features of the extremely flexible Hydra logic engine before the game is released later in 2013. Anyone who helps out will also get in on the ground floor of the HYDRA game company which has several multi-user games (sci-fi and otherwise) in the works if you're looking to pursue a career in game design art.

The adventure awaits.
Once we make the brackets, belts and a little more cosmetic work we will be going into limited production. We plan on having some of these signed by Michael Rooker when he comes to Louisville Kentucky July 26-28. We are going to also be offering a Dixon Delux model with customized case .When we are ready we will do a post in the junkyard posts. Thanks guys and enjoy. Made in Elizabethtown Kentucky.

Where can I get a file for free to send to Fabric on demand? I'm 6 ft tall so how much would it be for them to print the fabric? Would it be better to order a Halloween costume and put Puff paint on it and make lenses? I want it to look good, but I'm not picky about it being 100% accurate. Any help would be great.

It's been a long year and a half for me; botched projects, overdue runs, cancelled runs, and on and on, and I've finally recovered. I'm getting back into prop making, and am going back to my roots; past projects, unfinished shelf sitters, new builds, and on and on. Pretty much whatever strikes my fancy.

I think we all remember getting together and cranking out the first batch of Vigos way back in 2009, and then subsequently, the second Painting, the Muses. The images weren't the best, but they sure came out great thanks to artists here, like Ramiel, AZSpidey, and a few others. Since its posting, the images have found their way around the net, and have been produced by myself and others over and over again (most of the others were without permission).

Last year, I was given the opportunity to create a replica for an ILMer, and I was pretty stoked about it, and asked if he/she worked at the Presidio offices, and sure enough they did! One shipped prop later, I had new, up close pics of the Vigo painting prop.

They were kind enough to take several photos, and the glares from the previous image are all but gone. Detail upon detail has emerged, and I was able to assemble a gorgeous new image, and even got one printed up for the Ohio Group I'm in to have on display at cons.

I was so happy an inspired by the completion of the new Vigo, I went into full 'redux' mode and have been digitally restoring (with my limited skills) the Muses painting, dragging out better colors section by section, and even bring up some additional detail.

I can go into loads of detail about all the little things now visible, but I'll just let the pics speak for themselves! Check out the side by sides:

Nice crotch shot showing all the new, excellent detail.

My new Vigo as he hangs today . . . in my living room :lol

And the new Vigo during "birth". Ewww . . . :lol

Muses improvements at a glance

I hope to sell these down the road, but not right now. So, please, don't bother expressing interest or PMing me about getting one. I just wanted to post these and show them off cause I'm a proud papa.
Enjoy!

Board member C0mmand3rC0dy asked if I would take on polishing his Factory Entertainment Elite J2 agent sidearm. Having done quite a few noisy crickets for board members here I said "no problem" and ordered the polish, cloths and waxes to do this job. I figured with the body already having a fairly smooth finish and the amount of larger open space this would be a fairly easy project to take on... :rolleyes

I received the J2 last week, unfortunately one day after I aggravated my old broken neck injury, badly. This I hate to say slowed the project down, my apologies to him but it has been a rough time on my end between MRI's. meds and trying to not to further the injury further while taking on this project. I pulled through with it but it was unexpected and its been a long week and project. BUT... its done and packed away and ready to ship back to him immediately. :)

The FE elite came with what appeared to be a plastic coat spray to protect an already oxidized finish on the bare aluminum. The effect, while screen accurate looked a bit rough. Realistic to the screen piece and a real world used weapon with wear but as you see below:

A really tarnished look. So, I went at it with the # 2 Novus polish as well used Renaissance wax after to polish and provide a basic seal to the finish. Any handling will wear away at the finish over time so I have included more polish for him to use as needed as well another jewelers cloth to keep it neat with handling. The polishing was much more of a job than expected. The amount of complex curves on this made this a much more labor intensive job than I ever expected. The tarnish as well hid a few slight imperfections in the metal, so in the end, with this modified finish, you get a much more shinier weapon which I think matches up to the screen much better but still shows a some slight wear. The extra knobs and buttons are made with a different material and would not polish the same as the body although they did take a bit of a shine:

I know some would prefer not to have the gun altered and when tackling this job, I wondered if it would be worth the effort in the end. Being a screen accurate junkie, I loved the results in the end and would do the same to mine but it was a much more labor involved project than expected. Comparing the beginning and end results, I think it turned out nicely.

Overall, the finish came out very close to the chrome limited edition piece but not with the ultra shine to it. All in all, the best finish of the three different types (chrome, unpolished, polished) in my own opinion and most likely the closest to the screen pieces.

Inspired since my childhood...now I've realised my Real Ghostbusters Proton wand thrower as seen in the 80's TV-series. The goal was to create the overall familiar look from the movie, combined with the TVseries, plus the thought in mind "how could this have been looked in the real world?". Mine was built from scratch by my own using a lot of real world items, everythings made out of metal here, real cables and wires, buttons, switches, and so on. Most of it was saved from being recycled at some junkyard. I had no idea how this would be turning out. Here's the result:

-a few parts were leftovers from my already posted all metal Proton gun from GB1 (resin grip is from MMM/back and front handle/buttons/hatlights) and of course from my already finished RGB Thrower built for my own collection
-the side decals were made from scratch by me
-the yellow end-tube close before the guntip is a recycled flashlight tube
-the gun-box is made of a mechanical device which can be found in the metal industry
