Got this awesome kit from madmanmoe64 and wanted to post my progress.
He has an awesome thread on his making of the kit from start to finish and a very detailed tutorial on it as well, but I would like to see some of the customers build ups as well....so hear is mine.
I pretty much followed the Tutorial so I will just post progress pics with brief explanations.
The kit:

I had to rebuild a few of the barbs in the lid and fill some holes here and there. I used Aves epoxy sculpt.
Dome polished and kit all cleaned up along with light module:

Test fit everything and primer'd, Scratched some lines in painted gold back of the dome:

Flat black base coat:

Gold Leaf:

I used Brush 'n Leaf gold and it seemed to work very well. Then clear coated it all with clear Satin.
All together. Painted the inside of box and lid a reddish brown color.

Light module installed and starting weathering.

My dome had a few bubbles deep inside, too far to sand out without taking a lot off
the back...but I feel it adds to the character of the piece.
The weathering:
1st did a wash of dark green and black.

Then a few heavier patinas with green/black mixed with plaster.

Then I knocked it back a bit with another dark wash and here is where it sits today.

I haven't attached the lid yet as I am trying to find some hinges that will allow the lid to open all the way without cutting or beveling the back side of the lid. I tried a few configurations with the supplied hinges, but I just can't get them to work.
If anyone has any ideas to where I could find hinges that would work for this please post it up!
Thanks for looking! This was a fun build up and a very nice kit from an awesome member here, and with great instructions for newer kit builders, like myself. I highly recommend getting one!

Big thanks to El Fett for posting this suit up in the junkyard. It's in good hands. I got a chance to wear it for the first time today at BigWow comic fest in San Jose. This is the biggest comic show we have here in the Bay Area/NorCAl (till WonderCon returns where it belongs!):D

I got the suit on thursday and needed a quick faceshell so I modded an off the shelf spidey mask from ToyRUs. Added magnets to the lenses that came with the suit and added magnets to the mask. The lenses hold on but I need to make new lenses that are breathable. They kept fogging up so I didn't wear the mask too much today.

I'll work on getting a pair of Asics for the suit but for now I worked with what I had. I took a pair of black kung fu slippers and bleached them, then dyed them red. They were too red compared to the red in the suit so I toned it down with a light mist of flat black spray paint.

It was fun to wear and I got a lot of positive compliments on the suit. Now that I know about the dye sublimation process I'm interested in getting another suit made.
Lining up the screen to the opening in the front.

Accidentally broke the leads to the battery :(

...but that led me to figure out how to use the switch for the toy to turn on/off the mp3 player!

And a video of it before tacking down the screen with hot glue. I think I've got it lined up a bit better than this, but it's not too bad if I don't.

More pics to come, need to get my DSLR back from work tomorrow!

Also, the videos on the MP3 player has sound, but there's no built-in speaker. There is a headphone jack, but it is right at the side of the tricorder. I've modded the shell a bit to give access to the port and the USB port, but I need to figure out a way to have a low-profile external (or internal? I have no idea about circuitry so I wouldn't know how to connect to the headphone leads) speaker.

Hi everyone,

I am making a base for a 1:1 89 Batman. It is made out of pink insulation foam from HomeDepot (Polystyrene) and will look like a stone floor with the Bat Symbol protruding out. It will be roughly 2.5' wide X 2.5' long X 6" high. Since it will be stone-like and slightly pitted, I wanted to use something that was strong, yet would show some detail, along with not being too expensive. I need it to be able to handle some abuse and the weight of the mannequin. So I was thinking on:

Easyflo or 1512, but these are not very cheap.

Are there better and/or cheaper solutions out there?

I have heard of people mentioning latex primer and plaster joint compound also, but I am not sure how well that will hold up or how much detail that will show.

I appreciate any assistance.

Definitely not my typical prop build, but my mother loves the 1963 film Charade, with Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn. I'm not going to waste time putting a spoiler tag in this, but it's worth seeing if you haven't, and honestly the name of my thread kind of already gave away the twist of the flick.
ANYWAYS, I decided to duplicate the torn envelope with stamps to place in a shadow box for mom. To refresh, here are the stamps (all fictitious, but loosely based on real designs):

I've already duplicated the stamps (not so challenging), but the envelope is what is killing me. In the movie, it is a security envelope, but the 'security liner' appears to be a solid blue, not the repetitive scrollwork blue or red that seems to be used these days. The envelope is also not a standard size (for the US), but stubbier and taller, as you'd imagine what some greeting cards would be in. I'll be the first to say that, when I give this to my mother, she will not care in the slightest about the envelope type. Having said that though, I WILL KNOW, and there is no way I'll let that fly. I can custom make the envelope (the paper itself), and I guess I could print my own liner, but I was thinking perhaps I'm overlooking an easy source (or solution) to this problem? Any help that you guys could offer would be more than appreciated.

Here's a pic of the envelope (obviously pre-torn); unfortunately I don't have a screencap convenient of the security liner. I thought I saw those envelopes with the solid blue liner as a kid for perhaps airmail, but I also thought those were postage-paid?

I know some people might appreciate this... You'll see why in a second.

Went to K-Mart tonight, ran across The Avengers Iron Man Tri-Power Repulsors on clearance for $14.99.... and K-Mart was running an additional 50% off clearance toys, making them $7.50.
The ones I found were NOT labeled, but were in the clearance aisle. I price checked them on a scanner, they came up $7.50.
They do not have them on the website, you'll have to find them in stores.
Amazon product page: Amazon.com: Marvel The Avengers Tri-Power Repulsor

You may be wondering why I'm posting about this in the movie replica/props area:
Quite simply, I know there are people who build props here that would LOVE to gut the lights/sounds from these toys, as I plan to do. Luckily, I found 2 at my K-Mart and plan on stripping them down to just the repulsors to put in my foam Mark III's gloves.
They are motion activated as well. Bending your hand upward 'activates' the Repulsor, making the sounds and light kick in.
Only problem I see with it is it also includes a few voice sounds ("I am Iron Man" and "Avengers Assemble") but I can live with it for some quick-made repulsors.

Hope this helps my fellow IM armor builders!!!

Okay, so I have been HAMMERING Jamie at Round 2, every year at Wonderfest, for the past five or six years to do the Sealab. Every year it's the same thing. "We can look into it, I guess?..."

This year I did my annual "DOOD I WILL BUY LIKE THREE CASES" (which I think is a conservative estimate) and he said "I know. Everyone keeps mentioning it. We bought one. We're looking into it now..."

We talked a little further, and as before, we talked about how it would essentially have to be backwards engineered, as the molds are not available/lost/whatever. But he understands how much the studio guys need them in quantity, as well as the nostalgic element, which would have people buying them to take a virtual time trip back to their childhoods.

So if you are so inclined, drop Jamie at Round 2 an email, and let him know you too want a Sealab. He's a great guy - he listens to the fans.
