This is my first ever post--although I have long admired the talent of this community. I was so happy to see so much of it on display this weekend at Dragon Con here in ATL. Anyway, I was inspired a year ago by this post and wanted to attempt my own bucket for my son (who also is 4). Progress pics below.

I am still struggling with the smoothing process. The clay is Klean Klay regular and it finishes nice with a wet sponge--although I keep nicking it with a fingernail or tool. Anyway, it's all part of the process. Please let me know what you think!

I did a search and see that there are few threads on this subject. With Halloween coming up and the Bluray release of the film, this might be a good time to share with those who may not otherwise have the opportunity, this aspect of replica costuming.

I'll start out by clarifying that this is not about making a duct tape costume....or a slap together quickie for audience participation. I am talking about screen accurate replicas and performance quality costuming.

A little background about the subject:
The original film "The Rocky Horror picture Show" was costumed by designer Sue Blane, who returned for the film production after designing both the original 1973 British, Kings Road production, the first Australian production and various tours and revivals since then.

The costumes are notable as extravagant "Glitter Rock" costumes of the early 1970s (the designs as originally produced for the film). We would consider them as period costuming today even though many of the fashions have returned. Heavy use of knits and synthetic fabrics makes these costumes easier to reproduce than a molded suit of armor.....however there are some limitations to currently produced fabrics. This has been overcome by some by commissioning the fabrics to be reproduced professionally and by others by shopping the thrift stores looking for the needed fabrics.

The most difficult costumes appears to be that of the main character of Frank N. Furter. Mostly due to the use of a period corset that has been altered to a degree that makes it difficult to understand it's basic design.

The film production boasted a costume budget of $1600.00 in 1974. Not much considering the film had a cost over 1 million......however when one looks at what is being worn......it isn't that hard to understand. Today however, the cost is much higher.

I had some prototype Weighted Companion Cubes made with an FDM machine out of ABS plastic. One prototype is about 4" on a side, the other measures a little less than 1 inch on a side.

I'd like to make molds to produce some resin or plaster copies, but I've never done this before.

There's a bit of surface roughness that I'd like to smooth out. The only time I've done this in the past was with some Squadron green putty, which seemed to bond to the ABS plastic acceptably.

Is there a better way to do this? I'm almost tempted to spray it with some crack-filling aerosol primer paint, but I don't know if this might mess it up or otherwise make the pieces unsuitable for mold making.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to do this?

It appears to be based on Arnie's hand from the end of T2 (minus the glove) except that the forefinger has more flesh around the exposed endo finger than in the movie.

I'm looking into having certain pieces of the Iron Man suit milled in foam, and haven't been able to find much information about exactly what types of foams are dense enough to be milled.

I have seen some people using Foamular or Pink/blue Foam from Home Depot/Lowes. Is that dense enough for use with a CNC machine?

Also, if foam isn't really an option.. I was also thinking about laminated layers of MDF board to achieve the desired thickness and then have that milled. Is that a viable route?

I really just need a solid material that can retain detail, that comes (or can be made) in block/cube shapes so i cut out solid pieces.

Any help that anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

A few years ago I bought the most amazing HANNIBAL FBI file off the RPF and was instantly addicted. Reading the prop over and over got me thinking about these types of props and if I could try my hand at it. Mostly I loved the idea of added history that may or may not be in or have been hinted at in the movies. I decided ambitiously to start a police file on Pamela Voorhees from the Friday the 13th movies than lead to a full out FBI file on Jason. I lovingly borrowed some page layouts from the Hannibal file... just the layout not the words. (I will gladly change the format if I've offended anyone...I forgot who I bought it from here.) Well I got Pamelas 90% done but other than three other autopsy files to finish I'm at a loss for more stuff to add. I currently have her arrest file for trespassing on the campgrounds to poison the water, the court case files, the psych report from a doctor Loomis (he he) as to her state of mind, finger prints, creepy photo of the Voorhees house, newspaper articles on the drowning child at camp, and the poisoned water with her arrest, the police report on the first movie from Alice Hardys POV, autopsy reports on all the victims found in the first movie and I started the FBI file on the "VOORHEES KILLER".

Can somebody give me some Ideas from the "old" first movie (not necessarily seen in, or hinted to but something that could be in her file...)

p.s. Ive been here long enough you'd think to figure out how to shows pictures but I keep uploading to pics but nothing happens
